Fucking Stars

http://barney.gonzaga.edu/%7Ebhughes2/Hosted%20Files/Seattle%20Skyline.jpg
ah, this weekend was so nice up in the northwest. (i know, yet another picture of the seattle skyline, but i love it). chilling at volunteer park on capitol hill makes for a great day. now back to gray skies and rain, rain, rain...

http://hahamusic.files.wordpress.com/2008/01/klaxons121.jpg
klaxons are recording their new album in a solar-powered studio sponsored by lily allen and greenpeace. i hope this trend catches on with other artists soon.

obama will be meeting with israel's benjamin netanyahu this week in what is supposed to be the most important pow-wow in recent history that will really affect mid-east politics in our time. maybe peace is on the horizon? (probably not)

wanda sykes at the white house? sounds weird, but i'd have her host my parties if i was president too! she hosted the white house correspondence dinner this past weekend, a huge celeb-filled event with everyone who's anyone in attendence. even obama was cracking jokes, taking shots at john mccain, joe biden, and dick cheney.

i was supposed to go see these guys earlier this quarter (sorry kate lien) but cant seem to stop listening to this song. starfucker is from portland, and hopefully play more shows in seattle in the near future.

[Not] Very Pressing Issues

Men In Skirts
do you other guys out there enjoy wearing skirts? maybe not, but a guy in new orleans does and is suing the police dept for $1 in damages for allegedly being harassed for wearing a skirt in public. a plus for free speech/gender rights. his justification for wearing skirts: women love them.

do you love cinco de mayo as much as i do? maybe. i love margaritas, chips, guacamole and all the other things that americans associate with this holiday even though none of them are really that mexican at all. here's to twisting ethnic holidays and turning them into drinking holidays!

seattle mayor greg nickels and sf mayor gavin newsom were came in 2nd and 3rd place in the battle to become the greenest mayor, both losing to ny mayor michael bloomberg. it's good to know that the mayors that represent areas where i live care about global warming and protecting the planet. i might disagree with them on some policy issues, but here's to all things green.

i recently started listening to rainy dawg radio more often, thanks to my friends the nack and benny blanco, both pictured above and both djs for the station. having been a dj in high school, i know it definitely takes work to put together playlists and find good music. support local radio, listen to rainy dawg.

according to a recent zogby poll, 52% of americans and 56% of californians support legalizing marijuana. thank god we're moving onto more pressing issues in politics and coming to our senses regarding drug policy. plus states can make a lot in tax revenue from regulating the sale of marijuana, so it's a win-win for politicians and pot heads.

Boobs, Loons and Coons

http://newworldodor.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/joe-the-plumber.jpg
joe the plumber, made famous by supporting the candidacy of mccain-palin last year, came out today and said that he'd "never let [queers] near my children." i'm glad we have such smart and educated people infiltrating american politics.
Kate Moss
who's that? it's kate moss (she has boobs and a stomach?!). apparently she just started wearing bras from gaining weight, but i don't think anyone's complaining about her growing chest size for multiple reasons.

http://brooklynpaper.com/assets/photos/32/17/32_17_vonnegutcompost2_z.jpg
is a kurt vonnegut compost box not the coolest idea ever? well, apparently someone in brooklyn doesn't think so because they knocked it over and the socially-conscious brooklynites will have none of that. and so it goes.

Coldplay Accused of Plagiarism – Again
yusuf islam (aka cat stevens) has sued coldplay for using his song foreigner suite in their song viva la vida. but come on, you'd be mad if coldplay used your music in one of their melodramatic poppy songs too.

Aptopix Raccoon Home
if i were you, i'd watch out for raccoons. ringworm attained from any contact with them/their feces causes nausea, nerve damage, and death. yet another reason why we need to rid ourselves of these worthless creatures.

honey bees are going extinct, in case you didn't know. but bumble bees are here to stay, and so are odd-ball 90s girls in bumble bee costumes!

Stuffed from Last Night

https://webspace.utexas.edu/whiteatl/www/Spicebrush/events/060811_Seattle/4/IMG_6235.JPG
i think i may have found my new favorite coffee spot in fremont, cafe ladro. the drinks are good and so are the pastries (i recommend the vegan oat bar). the atmosphere is chill and the music selection ranges from lauryn hill to lupe fiasco to outkast. large tables make it easy for you to sit and study or chat with friends. two thumbs up.

supreme court justice david souter is stepping down in june, allowing for pres obama to make a new appointment to the bench. most likely, the senate will confirm a liberal to the court and maintain the balance of the court. he's leaving to retire to his house in the boonies of new hampshire, and who'd blame him? he once said that being a supreme court justice was "the best job in the worst city."

i have been converted to eating breakfast now, or at least whenever parents are in town. portage bay cafe has the BEST breakfast items ever and their fruit and syrup bar are to die for. i personally like the proscuitto omelette and eggs benedict, but it doesn't matter because there is something for everyone. and the food is all local and organic, so you can't feel too bad eating so much. more good mornings to come.

i am so full from eating this weekend, a combination of portage bay + guanaco's pupusas + piccolo's pizza tonight is going to stuff me for an entire week. and it's supposed to rain all week unfortunately BUT i have way too much reading to catch up on, so maybe the rain is a good thing.

"i love the rain, how it washes away all stresses of the day" -kate

i've been humored lately by texts from last night, definitely an upgrade from FML. drunk texters beware!
(312): i fell asleep last night with fifteen animal crackers in my mouth. rock bottom dude.
(604): My feet smell like cheese. Makes me hungry.
(541): so last night was fun and all.. but you might want to get tested

Swimming with Alters

if there's anything better on tv than suburban housewives dealing weed, it must be suburban housewives with multiple personalities! united states of tara is one of my new favorite showtime shows and provides a glimpse into what it's like to be a mom, have to work and deal with multiple personalities (my favorite is buck, but it's debatable). watch this show!

Swine Flu

i am absolutely SICK (yes, sick) of all this swine flu brouhaha. period.

unfortunately, the uw has decided to cut its mens and womens swimming programs. its sad because swimming requires true passion, since theres no money in it (unless youre michael phelps maybe) and because i used to be a swimmer myself. nonetheless, it shows that no one's immune from budget cuts.

Let's Party Like We're 61!

http://www.foxnews.com/images/368922/0_61_050808_israel1.jpg
today israel turned 61 (i know the picture says 60 but i dig the glasses), and in order to celebrate, hillel uw put on an israel palooza event on the hub lawn. not only did i get to eat falafel and get a free bottle opener, but i also learned that the country has a soccer team! in any case, happy birthday to the middle east's lone democracy and hopefully some peace proposal with the palestinians is implemented soon.

http://obamablunt.com/obama_smoking_joint.jpg
today may have been israel's birthday, but it was also the 100 day marker of obama's presidency. he said we're off to a good start but that he's not content... good, cuz we'll be needing jobs in four years.

http://media1.break.com/dnet/media/2008/11/43%20Panda%20Falls%20Down.jpg
pandas can't use slides

blue-footed boobies

?? dunno, but it's funny-looking

chimp and tiger
can't we all just get along?

Dust Mask
did you know that 60% of americans breath in bad air? that's what the american lung society reported today, and bad air pollution causes lung cancer, heart attacks, and premature deaths. the worst metro area is LA-long beach-riverside (a surprise?) and the best is fargo, nd (but who wants to live there anyway?).

by the way, listen to this song cuz i couldn't stop listening to it this morning, and the guy's from brazil: gui boratto-opus 17

Green Eggs and Swine

http://www.treehugger.com/michele-bachmann.jpg
this woman needs to leave politics and go back to the boonies of minnesota asap. first she said that an investigation needed to be made to see which congressional representatives were anti-american. now she's says that it might not just be a coincidence that the swine flu has broken out under a democratic president. but the last one occurred under president ford. crazies are taking over the republican party!

http://rosettasister.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/arlen-specter.jpg
speaking of republican politicians, senator arlen specter changed parties today and will give democrats the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster. although he's admitted it was because he knew he'd probably lose the republican primary in his native pennsylvania, i can't help but think that it could be a way for him to save his own ass from losing to a more liberal democrat. but hey, it's politics.

http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/brandnewday/archives/malkin.jpg
speaking of more republican conspiracy theories, michelle malkin, glenn beck, michael savage and the whole gang have begun spreading false lies that IMMIGRANTS ARE BRINGING SWINE FLU OVER THE BORDER!!! but they're not actually... it was brought here by teenagers at a catholic prep school in new york city who were vacationing in cancun. how about we actually solve the real problem and put more regulations on agribusiness so that we can actually keep people healthy?

The Daily of the University of Washington

by the way, i'm quite angry with the daily... does anyone fact-check there? their conservative columnist said that the jury's out on anthropogenic climate change (which it's not) and compared it to "global cooling" in the 1970s (which was never even scientifically proven). this newspaper is failing us huskies!

Zep
on a lighter note, nevadans are preparing to ward off mormon crickets by blasting led zeppelin and the rolling stones... apparently crickets have bad taste in music?
